Social Media Profiles – Have You Claimed Yours Yet?

Over the last few years the digital world has experienced a social revolution. The number of people using social media channels across the world is growing at an alarming rate.
We are always urging businesses to tap into the potential that the social web offers. If they are used properly, the major social channels can be used to generate traffic, leads and sales as well as acting as primary customer service and networking channels.

Despite its power, many businesses decide not to use social media. Perhaps they don’t see a direct return? Maybe they just don’t have the time. Whatever the reasons, no business should completely ignore ‘social’. The internet is only going to become more social over the next few years. Very soon all companies who want to retain a healthy online presence will have to have at least some form of social presence. If you are in any doubt about this fact you just need to look at Google’s recent algorithm updates and the integration of social into all new technology.
It’s happening – whether you like it or not!
Protecting Your Profile
These days, when a new company is being formed, one of the first questions is, ‘is our domain name free?’ Over the last few years, social media profiles have become as important as your domain name. With the social web commanding such a strong influence, if another business is using a social profile which uses your company name, they could be getting opportunities that should be yours.
Even if you aren’t planning on using social media in the near future it’s very important that you safeguard your profile on all the major social channels. That means registering an account on Twitter, creating a company page on Facebook and Google+.
Doing the Bare Minimum
So, you’ve set up the 3 main profiles for your business. While you are there you might as well fill in some of the info and make it look good. Even if you aren’t actively using these profiles they are still likely to attract attention – such is the power of the social web.
When you set up your profiles it’s important to make them visually appealing. That means uploading your logo and customising the background so that it’s in keeping with your branding. While you are setting up your profiles it’s also important to include all the vital contact information so that potential customers can get in touch.
Lastly, while you are there, you might as well fill out a few lines about your business. Twitter, Facebook and Google+ all give you an opportunity to tell people what your business is about. Make it interesting, appealing and give visitors a call to action – you never know, one day it might land you a contract or a new customer.
We understand that, for whatever reason, many businesses are convinced that social media isn’t for them. If this is you, why not just spend half an hour protecting your online identity. Once it’s done you can forget about it, and if you do it right, it might even generate some new business.
