Why is my new website not showing up in Google?

New websites have to be ‘crawled’ to get their Google placement, and unfortunately it can take anything from one day to four weeks, or longer.

Google’s crawler indexes websites by using it’s Googlebot to go through the website as a user would.  Loads of factors are taken into account when Google’s servers decide how often to crawl a website.  This comes directly from Google’s website,

“Computer programs determine which sites to crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site. Google doesn’t accept payment to crawl a site more frequently for our web search results. We care more about having the best possible results  because in the long run that’s what’s best for users and, therefore, our business.”

So unfortunately you’re just going to have to wait awhile for your website to appear.  Because until the crawler gets to your website you can’t force Google’s hand, and there is very little you can do to speed up the process.  However, if, when your site does get indexed by the Googlebot you’re still not where you want to be in the search engine rankings there are a number of options which you can explore to improve your ranking and increase the traffic to your website.

Unfortunately there is no definite way of ensuring a high Google ranking but leaving your site to sit, un-optimized and un-marketed is a definite way to ensure a poor Google ranking.  Lots of website have trouble getting up the rankings when they have first launched, especially if they are under a new domain name (Google likes sites with a bit of history behind the domain) and so it may be a good idea to look into online marketing in the first year or so of launching your website.  You can contact us now and we can help you get an online marketing strategy together which will give your website a fighting chance in the battle for optimal search engine placements,
