The salty seadogs of Barti Rum expertly blend smooth and exotic Caribbean spiced rum with the delicate savoury tones of seaweed foraged on the wild shores of the Pembrokeshire coast. Inspired by a Welsh pirate (yes, that Black Bart), a passion for the seaside and a love of having a hearty drink with friends, Barti Ddu Rum aims to bring something unique to the drinks market.

the brief

As a new company joining the artisan spirits boom, Barti Rum were entering the market at an exciting time. Unfortunately, the popularity of craft alcohol also presented a marketing challenge when it came to visibility. To help the world discover the joys of their amazing rum, the Barti team asked us to design a website with the wow factor.

They wanted a stylish, easily navigable site where customers can not only buy the product but become a part of the Barti Rum family. (Or should that be crew?)

the solution

We worked closely with the Barti Rum team to create a bespoke template and design that fitted both their company ethos and business goals. E-commerce was an essential component of the website, so we created a secure, user-friendly shop and online account facility with easy navigation (a must for any rum named after a pirate). By incorporating high quality images, video and stylish graphics, our web experts brought the whole package together to create an engaging, responsive, on-brand website that gets results. We also linked up their ecommerce website with Xero for auto generated invoicing, helping to save on admin time.

As Barti Rum is such a stylish brand, we had to make sure that the website’s visuals were truly representative of the quality and sophistication that the company is known for. The landing page has an atmospheric, almost dreamy banner video that grabs the visitor and brings them straight to the wild, rocky Pembrokeshire shores that inspire Barti’s epic spirits. Of course, as it’s an ecommerce site, the product images had to look the part, so we added a tasteful mix of straight product pics and some chic beach shots to reinforce the rum’s coastal connections.

other challenges

The domain name was with a third party, so we had to gain access to the account to update the records. Their old website was also hosted with another provider, which unfortunately meant that we were unable to back up the old website before launching the new one. At Web Adept, we always take back ups in case they ever need to be reinstated.

Rather fittingly for a drink named after a scourge of the high seas, Barti Rum’s website continues to help them make waves in the drinks industry.
