CoedNet is a new online directory set up by Llais y Goedwig that aims to promote local woodland enterprises and connect them with potential customers. The big picture is to create sustainable, more resilient communities while supporting ethical, local Welsh businesses and community woodland groups.
The Coed Net team wanted a website with a strong emphasis on the sustainability of the products and services included in its directory. During the first phase, the products and services will be sold by community woodland groups that are Llais y Goedwig members, but their long-term vision is to develop a platform from which to roll things out to a wider network of local businesses and sole traders.
The site needed to be value-led and highlight sustainable, ethical purchasing decisions in the hope of eventually forming a certification or standard for the products and services sold. The vision of the company is that, with the help of the new website, community woodland groups will then take ownership of fulfilling orders, responding to feedback and maintaining their presence on the selling platform.
Our team took a lot of care in creating something that was in tune with the current branding of the parent company, Llais y Goedwig. We also added an interactive directory and map function with built-in filters, making it so much easier for users to navigate the site and discover new businesses.
Website accessibility is something we’re passionate about – whether it’s improving the experience for people living with disabilities or ensuring that English and Welsh speakers can browse a site in their preferred language. So, we added functions per the latest WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards as well as offering bilingual capabilities throughout. We also popped in an integrated member login function and image gallery so that individual listings can be easily accessed and edited.
Our development process also included some back-end SEO boosting, including:
To round it all off, we integrated a Mailchimp sign-up and blog section, as well as delivering online CMS training that gave their in-house team the know-how to add regular updates and news to the site.
The impact of high-quality professional images in transforming the look and feel of a website was really clear in this project. A striking mix of outdoor photographs and beautiful illustrations really capture the focus on nature and people that lies at the heart of the project.
CoedNet were keen to have some sort of online presence while we worked on the new website, so our team created and launched a holding page to ensure that the CoedNet domain was accessible with all the relevant contact details available to people interested in the project.
This was quite a complicated project – with such diverse and comprehensive objectives we needed to make sure that we’d crossed all the ‘t’s and dotted all the ‘i’s. Through close collaboration with the CoedNet team and meticulous fact-finding, we crafted a detailed plan of objectives and deliverables that paved the way for a smooth project launch.
We would highly recommend working with Web Adept, they have a very knowledgeable and friendly team. Cerys is excellent at keeping things on track. They also don’t mind if you don’t agree with something and will go out of there way to make things work, this two way communication should not be underestimated. Their aftercare package is also very good. A professional organisation I would happily work with again.
