Doing amazing things in the North Pembrokeshire area, POINT is a popular youth centre based in Fishguard. Run by a dedicated team, the charity has many facets and uses funds to provide a safe, supportive space for local youths as well as creating projects which bring the whole community together – whether that’s giving kids a hand with their homework or helping the older generation get online.

the brief

As a youth organisation, having an entertaining, positive and, most importantly, mobile-friendly website was vital. It had to be easily accessible with clear information about the projects they run and the funding they’ve secured, as well as telling kids how they can join in on all the fun.

A key aspect of the build was to create an area where children can find helpline information and access out of hours support.

the solution

We had fun with this one, delivering a fresh, vibrant and easy to use website that caters to both children and the people who fund the organisation. We used a lively, attention-grabbing colour scheme to appeal to kids and convey the happy vibe that POINT is all about. The design incorporated multiple areas that target the audience in different ways, featuring current projects, updates and how the team are helping the community. Child safety is a prime concern for POINT, so we also created a dedicated ‘out of hours’ section with a ‘hide me’ tab.

Professional, top quality images were really important on this site to help kids connect with the team and scope out the activities, but also to build trust in the organisation among patrons and the wider community. The visuals definitely add a ton of atmosphere to the design and convey a sense of the friendly, fun, supportive and inclusive services the Point TYP team provides.

other challenges

As is sometimes the case, the domain name was with another developer who was a quite hard to track down. Although it took a a few phone calls and some diplomatic wrangling to transfer it over to us, we got it all sorted out.

Once everything was in place, we delivered a group digital skills training session to ten POINT employees, so they could edit the site with ease going forward.
