Established in St Davids in 1975, Thousand Islands Expeditions has become one of the most popular and well-known boat trip providers in West Wales. Their experienced, knowledgeable crew will whisk you away to Pembrokeshire’s wild islands for the adventure of a lifetime. The trips are a great way to explore the amazing Pembrokeshire coastline and say hello to the local wildlife, including dolphins, sunfish, seals, puffins and some of the largest sea bird colonies in the world.

the brief

As the business is an adventure provider, the web design had to convey a real sense of the epic experiences on offer, give potential customers tons of information on the local wildlife and islands and also make booking excursions incredibly straightforward.

So, visual, functional and highly responsive were the main boxes to be ticked. They also wanted to add a new webcam feed and improve the booking process.

the solution

The result of our efforts is a website with a fun and friendly, yet professional vibe that looks great and works seamlessly. The webcam feed was a top addition to give people a realtime peek at what’s going on down at the launch site. Plus, we improved the bookings link to their existing software and ensured prominent buttons are displayed throughout the site.

This is the sort of website where top quality images, video and webcam are an absolute must. People need to see the experiences that await up close to get a real feel for the activities and the incredible scenery they can expect on a Thousand Islands boat trip. We added plenty of stunning shots of the local wildlife, sweeping seascapes and the boats themselves, as well as a home page banner video to grab attention off the bat.

other challenges

When your business has been around for a long time, it’s always a good idea to take a fresh look at your branding, so the Thousand Islands team asked us to update their logo. We re-drew the design, keeping all the recognisable elements but also making it slightly more modern.

The previous logo was only available in limited formats, so we made sure we gave them a much wider range of options for use on digital platforms, print media and merchandise etc.
