Well-known chef and S4C regular Lisa Anne Fearn, is the founder of The Pumpkin Patch, a cookery school in the heart of the Carmarthenshire countryside. Now under the umbrella of Y Sied, Lisa’s ultra cool cookery school, café and loft space is the place to go for cookery workshops, food demos, parties, room hire, talks and so much more – perfect for avid foodies of all ages.
With both English and Welsh-speaking customers, Lisa wanted to create a bilingual ecommerce website that made buying merchandise, hiring rooms and booking baking workshops as easy as possible.
The website design needed to have a modern, sleek feel that reflected the amazing space that Lisa has created. It also had to seamlessly integrate with a range of payment platforms and include a newsletter function to keep customers to date with events. As the company was rebranding from The Pumpkin Patch to Y Sied, securing an additional domain name was also on the priority list.
We’ve had plenty of practice in creating fully bilingual websites over the years, so we gave Lisa exactly what she asked for – a Welsh/English e-commerce website with a fresh, modern look, incorporating the new Y Sied logo across the site to underpin the company rebranding.
Now, it’s an effortless process for clients to book workshops, hire a room and buy merchandise via platforms like PayPal and Stripe, all carefully integrated with the client’s payment system, Square.
As for sharing their news, we embedded an easily updateable, Google-fed events calendar and downloadable, printable menus alongside a multiple list newsletter area for easier sign-ups and more targeted marketing.
Great images are an absolute must when your website is selling experiences, as was the case here. The physical space Lisa and her team have created is seriously photogenic which was a huge help, and the workshop and other shots really give customers a feel for the enjoyable, high quality events they can expect at Y Sied.
Domain name and email issues were the main headaches on this one. Unfortunately, Lisa’s old provider purchased the domain in their own name (not in Lisa’s personal or business name) which meant we couldn’t claim it through the main domain name provider. Pinning the developer down, getting the records updated and transferring the domain name took a while and gave us few grey hairs.
As was the case with the emails. Instead of being set up with a third party provider such as Google or Microsoft, they were also provided by the previous developer. This meant we had to take a few extra steps to back up, migrate and set them up on our server to ensure no emails were lost.
Web Adept delivered us a great website! Its colourful but clean and highlights all aspects of our business. They made the re-branding transition as smooth as possible and were very easy to work with.
