Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi School is the first 3 to 16 VA Church in Wales school in the world. With locations in the picturesque Pembrokeshire towns of St Davids and Solva, the school offers exciting and innovative learning opportunities for young people and takes pride in making the transition from primary to secondary education as seamless as possible. As a faith school, Penrhyn Dewi has a dedicated Christian ethos and strong links with the Anglican churches, clergy and local Christian community. 

the brief

The brief here was to create a website that worked for both parents and pupils – so it was a case of balancing professional and informative with fun and engaging in terms of the look and content. The Penrhyn Dewi team wanted the site to be a user friendly information hub for parents and children and to highlight all the great things they’ve got going on at the school.

Schools always have a lot of events and information changes happening so an important part of the brief was to make sure the back end of the website was easy to update in-house.

the solution

Our awesome tech team hit the brief on the head, delivering a sleek, responsive and visually engaging site. We made sure to keep the school branding strong and cohesive throughout the site, so everything tied together well and stayed on message. We also added a login area to enable parents to keep up to date with events. We know that all teachers are super busy, so we made sure that the functionality is in place for the team to be able to update the site quickly and easily as and when they need to.

high quality images

Great images are a major player when it comes to making a website engaging, especially when children are part of the target audience. They also help to emphasise to parents the abundance of educational opportunities as well as the fun, friendly and inclusive atmosphere at the school. Luckily, the Penrhyn Dewi team made it all very easy for us by having some top quality professional photos taken which enabled us to give the site some real personality in terms of visuals. 

other challenges

The school team were a pleasure to work with, so this project was pretty much plain sailing all round. The only minor issue was the timeframe which was longer than usual purely because there were quite a few people who had to sign off on the project.

Not that it was a problem for us, we love a bit of good quality control so we’d rather something takes a bit longer if it means the client gets exactly what they want.
