Anchor Guesthouse is a 9-bed boutique hotel overlooking the picturesque seafront of Broad Haven village in the heart of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Acquired in 2022 by local businessman, Leonard Rees, it’s not only a great place to stay, it’s also home to the hugely popular Sunshine Italian restaurant and pizzeria.

the brief

The new owners of Anchor Guesthouse wanted to stamp their footprint on the business so came to us for a rebranding and redesign of the website. The overall remit was to improve the business’s online presence, promote the hotel’s stunning seaside location, increase direct bookings from both new and returning customers and highlight the on-site Sunshine Italian restaurant. 

We were also tasked with incorporating a handy newsletter function so that Leonard and team could keep customers up to date with all the latest news and offers. 

the solution

We started with the rebranding of the Anchor Guesthouse and restaurant, designing a modernised and more impactful brand identity. Once that was all squared away, it was rolled out across the new site and social media accounts, creating a fresh, cohesive look across all platforms.

We then set our sights on the website which launched in March 2023. A simple user-experience with easy navigation, next level responsiveness and interactive features were at the top of the wish list, so that’s what we created.

We added loads of useful features including a third-party e-commerce booking system, built-in image gallery and newsletter sign-up, as well as search bar, Instagram feed and enquiry form functions. We also layered the site up with prominent trust building features like guest testimonials and calls to action to help guide users to the booking page and boost conversions.

Once the website was suited and booted, we gave the Anchor team some online CMS training so that they had the confidence and skills to update the site with new images and information whenever they needed to.

With great food, lovely accommodation and gorgeous scenery on offer, filling the site with fantastic images was always on the cards. The mix of visuals really gives you a feel for the beauty of the location and the high quality of the guesthouse and restaurant. We also made sure that visitors to the website can hop onto the live Broad Haven beach cam for a real time peek at one of Pembrokeshire’s best seaside spots.

other challenges

We like our transitions to be  seamless, so as there was already an existing site, we had to take care of all the critical optimisation tasks like 301 redirects, transferring meta descriptions and enhancing images first.

That way we could launch the new website without having any negative impact on the website’s search engine optimisation (SEO). Never the most straightforward task but worth the effort to get the job done properly.
